The small market town of Neustift an der Lafnitz in the Oberwart district is the strategically ideal starting point for cross-border tours between Burgenland and Styria. Here, gentle Pannonian hilly landscapes meet winding roads. Thanks to its central location, motorcyclists can enjoy a day trip across the Lower Austrian Wechsel region to neighbouring Hungary as well as a detour to Upper Styria. From the Rax-Schneeberg region, you can head into the winding Mariazeller Land: on a winding ride through the Höllental valley and the Kalte Kuchl, you can follow in the footsteps of the 1st Vienna High Spring Water Pipeline, built in 1873. A Yamaha XT350 was his very first motorbike in 1994, and off-road routes were his territory of choice. But at some point, Andreas Schmidt, known to his regulars simply as Andi, found his way onto the road. Today, the MoHo gas(t)giver rides a Ducati Monster. And occasionally a BMW GS Adventure. So the thirst for adventure is still in his bones. Even if things are usually a little more leisurely these days, with his guests by his side - such as on his current favourite tour, an extended ride around the Mariazell region.
"What I love about our region is the low volume of traffic and, above all, the variety that the border region between Styria and Burgenland has to offer - from curve junkies to cruisers, there's something for everyone here!" Andi chats from the toolbox. "For me, riding a motorbike is simply the best way to escape from everyday life."
Word of the personal and familiar touch with which guests are welcomed here at the Rabenbräu has long spread beyond southern Burgenland and eastern Styria. Just like the legendary whisky & gin tasting with Andi. There is plenty to learn about high-quality spirits from the host. Slàinte mhath!
