30 years of MoHo - Motorbike Hotels
1996 - 2026
For 30 years, we have been your home advantage on motorbike holidays, your guides to ingenious tours, and pioneers of bike hotels.
What began in 1996 with six enthusiastic hosts, after a prelude of several years, has grown into the leading specialisation group for motorbike hotels today. That fills us with just a little pride.
The foreplay
In the 80s of the last century, motorcyclists were still considered wild dogs and were rarely welcome guests in hotels. The Schmidt brothers from Hotel Solaria and the Fresachers from Landhaus Jausern were quite different. As passionate bikers themselves, they were happy to have any fellow dog in their hotel.
In order to emphasise these ambitions, the "4 houses for 2 bikes" was founded in 1986 with two other colleagues as the first ever biker hotel cooperation. This made them the "early adopters" of motorbike hotels, so to speak.
After handing over the business to the younger generation, the two pioneers are no longer active in the association.
30 years of development
10 years after the big bang, suddenly more than "4 hotels" want to take up this special service for motorcyclists on their own flags. The logical consequence followed: in 1996, 6 members founded the co-operation "MoHo - Motorcycle Hotels in the Alps". This marked the beginning of a unique success story that nobody would have believed at the time.
The first MoHo logo is designed by Christa Fresacher (MoHo Landhaus Jausern).
The first joint MoHo catalogue with a total of 7 hotels is printed. The logo is also modernised at the same time.
In order to continue to grow successfully, a structure and binding rules are needed. So the hotel cooperation, which was founded five years earlier, now becomes an association. With all the trimmings: statutes, chairman, board, mandatory annual meeting, etc.
The now 10 members recognise the need for professional marketing and therefore bring MTS Austria on board as a profound partner for the further development and promotion of the group.
- A new logo is also created as part of the professionalisation process.
- Uniform standards are set for all hotels, which are still highly appreciated by our guests today.
- This year, the first South Tyrolean member establishments are added.
- A total of 17 hotels now belong to the "MoHo - Motorbike Hotels".
The MoHo territory continues to expand and the first member in Switzerland joins the MoHo Group.
- To make it easier to understand, the previous competence category designations (select, classic, friends) will be replaced by helmet symbols (5, 4 and 3 helmets).
- An online voucher shop will be set up on the MoHo website. The customisable vouchers can be printed out immediately at home and redeemed in all 53 MoHos.
With the growing radius of action of our guests, the MoHo area is also expanding. We want to offer our regular customers adequate biker accommodation (in the MoHo basic category "3 helmets") outside the Alpine arc or in more southerly climes, such as Tuscany or Istria.
The majority of our guests already use GPS navigation devices on their tours in the MoHo region. For this purpose, the MoHo hosts now provide over 300 ready-made tour suggestions (including GPS data) on the MoHo website.
An online route planner has now been added to the service to allow you to individualise these routes or plan your own.
The MoHo area continues to expand & we can welcome the first MoHo 3 helmets operation in Slovenia.
