Gailtaler Hof
Motorbike hotel in Kötschach - Mauthen
The Gailtaler Hof in Kötschach-Mauthen is a motorbike hotel as it should be: for more than 25 years, the Engl family has been all about biking. The warm hosts Christine and Josef are both passionate motorcyclists and know exactly what is needed for the perfect motorcycling holiday. Their insider tips are worth their weight in gold - after all, the two certified tour guides know the region like the back of their hands. Christine takes you on guided tours twice a week - along small side roads, into side valleys and to her favourite places.

Shared cornering pleasure = double the cornering pleasure
Boss, grill master, chef & tour guide - the two friendly hosts are always conjuring up unknown tours from the helmet and freshly prepared Mediterranean-Alpine specialities from the cooking pot. After the weekly guided tours, you can relax by the pool, on the sun terrace or in the shade of the weeping willow in the garden.
The tours start right from the front door - their names promise happiness: 3-country tour, Sella tour, day tour to the bathtubs of western Carinthia, into the hills of Friuli. A cultural and culinary variety that only a motorcycling holiday in the border triangle can offer. From Kötschach - Mauthen you can head off in all directions - with 30 mapped-out tours on your sat nav and insider tips from Josef and Christine in your pocket.

Motorbike expertise
Christine was already a founding member of MoHo. Today, as then, she is obviously responsible for the female quota in our group. When it comes to bikes, however, she prefers to use real men's mopeds. But certainly not on the "Yamaha Midnight Star", which Josef has been cruising alongside her for a few years now.

The innkeepers, history and development
As motorbike-riding guests have always stayed at the Gailtaler Hof since the establishment of the hotel (1957), it was only logical that Christine, the Engl family's eldest daughter, would one day be completely infected by this virus. The decisive factor was a ride as a pillion passenger on a K100 over the Gailberg at the tender age of 15.
Of course, she also rode a moped. At the age of 18, she got her car driving licence and - against her parents' wishes - her driving licence for her beloved motorbike.
Then she bought a Kawasaki ZL 500 with her first own money and made her first cautious scratches on the bends of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, the Plöcken Pass and the Staller Sattel. The Kawa was even delivered to her in Florence by her mother when she was a student, which affected her presence at university, but not her knowledge of the roads in Tuscany.
This motorbike (4-cylinder in-line, 2 overhead camshafts, water-cooled, cardan drive, LM rims) now has a place of honour right by the hotel entrance in summer. Christine hopes that one day our grandchildren will be proud to show off Grandma's first motorbike.
After a while, a Honda and a KTM Duke were added. So for two years she had three motorbikes to ride. Finally, the Honda and KTM were swapped for a BMW - Christine still rides this brand today.
Josef is a "latecomer" and only bought his first bike at the age of 41. As a Tyrolean, he naturally knows all the worthwhile routes north of the Hohe Tauern. Whether sun, snow or ice, you can ride in any weather. Riding a motorbike was a great hobby for Josef and he is now making it his profession. If that's not a stroke of luck.
Bike Plus
This is the end of run-of-the-mill motorbike holidays. Bends & passes MEETS pleasure & relaxation. Experience unforgettable moments that start right outside the hotel - just the way you like it.
This is where the biker scene meets. This MoHo - Motorbike Hotel is the centre for petrolheads. Everything revolves around engines on two wheels and here you will find the top addresses for club rides, among other things. The hotel's guests are predominantly motorcyclists and the bike expertise on site is top-notch.
In addition to motorbike expertise, the pampering programme for body, mind, soul and, last but not least, the palate is a top priority. Whilst "she" enjoys a wellness treatment and relaxes in the sauna and bath, "he" goes on tour with the MoHo host - or vice versa. In the evening, both palates are spoilt equally with specialities from local cuisine.
Don't have your own motorbike or want to save yourself the kilometres on the motorway? No problem! At these MoHo - Motorbike Hotels, rental is organised at the hotel or by the hotel.
