Salzkammergut: a variety of turquoise lakes in the heart of Austria
Welcome to the Upper Austrian side of the Salzkammergut! The region around Austria‘s largest inland lake lies directly in the heart of Austria – conveniently situated between Salzburg and Linz und with an idyllic position between the Mondsee and Traunsee lakes. Even though the mountains here on the northern edge of the Alps don’t rise up quite so high into the sky, the variety of bends is wonderful. The activity radius ranges from the Berchtesgaden Alps to the Hochkönig, past the Dachstein and into the Gesäuse.
As well as the unparalleled landscape, you’ll also find here historical and cultural hotspots such as Lake Wolfgang, Hallstatt, Bad Ischl and Bad Aussee. Your biking trip will quickly become a journey through time – from the Celts to Emperor Franz Joseph I. and Empress Sissi to famous artists from Gustav Klimt to Helene Fischer. A unique variety of turquoise lakes, tours into the neighbouring states of Salzburg and Styria and countless mountain roads – that’s the natural experience you’ll enjoy in the Salzkammergut.
