the Reschen Pass. A photo with the church tower jutting out of the lake is a must!
The South Tyrolean Vinschgau Valley attracts visitors with pleasant temperatures and picturesque villages
such as Mals and Glurns. From Prad onwards, the Stelvio Pass and the Umbrail Pass are the queen's stage
of our Alpine tour and it is advisable to bring a good dose of motorbike safety with you!
At 2,757 metres, the Stelvio Pass is the second highest asphalted mountain pass in the Alps (winter closure
usually October to mid-May), connects South Tyrol with Bormio and Lombardy and leads through the
national park of the same name against the spectacular backdrop of the Ortler group. The challenging
pass road has 48 hairpin bends on the South Tyrolean side and 34 hairpin bends down to Bormio. The hairpin bends
are sometimes extremely tight, making it almost impossible to ride smoothly. So the stopover
at the "Tibet Hütte" alpine inn is just the thing to recharge your batteries.
Around three kilometres after the Stelvio Pass and somewhat less demanding, but incredibly attractive,
At 2,503 metres, the Umbrail Pass is the highest road pass in Switzerland and leads down into the
UNESCO World Heritage Site Val Müstair (Münstertal). The 14-kilometre stretch, which is open between May and
November is now asphalted throughout. The border station is open due to
Switzerland's accession to the Schengen Agreement, the border station is no longer manned.
checks are only carried out at random, and there is no longer a night-time barrier.
The Münstertal is one of the most beautiful mountain valleys in Switzerland. The weather is remarkably mild, the mighty
The mighty mountain ranges of the Sesvenna group keep the wind and rain at bay. Once you arrive in Santa Maria, we recommend a detour to Valchava, one of the picturesque Swiss mountain villages, before travelling over the
Ofen Pass into the Lower Engadine.
The Ofen Pass (2149m) connects the villages of Zernez and Santa Maria over 35 kilometres. Its name is derived
from the smelting furnaces that existed in the region until the late Middle Ages. A replica of one of these
of these furnaces can be found at the top of the pass - a popular meeting place for bikers. The well-maintained road
road is in good condition and the ride on the southern ramp is particularly enjoyable due to the many
the many great hairpin bends. The climate around the Ofen Pass is also particularly mild.
It is also one of the areas with the least precipitation in the Swiss high mountains and the snow line is
high here, meaning that the pass can normally be travelled all year round.
The tour continues along the Inn through the Swiss National Park, and it is of course a good idea to stop for a coffee break in one of the pretty villages.
stop for a coffee break in pretty towns such as Guarda, Ftan or Scuol before returning to Austria via Martina.
back to Austria via Martina. At this point, bargain hunters should perhaps
a detour to the Samnaun duty-free area.
Finally, the route continues through the Oberinntal valley, Pfunds, Landeck via the Arlberg panoramic road and
the Arlberg Pass back to Haus Flexen in Stuben.
For less experienced or less confident bikers, we recommend the route from Glurns in the direction of
towards the Ofen Pass to avoid the difficult Stelvio Pass. Incidentally, Glurns is one of the smallest
towns in the Alps and enchants visitors with its medieval charm.
