Hahntennjoch round

Hochgurgl, Alpenhotel Laurin - Oetz - Kühtai- Zirl - Seefeld - Garmisch - Ehrwald - Bichlbach - Namlos - Stanzach - Elmen - Pfafflar - Hahntennjoch - Imst - Oetz - Hochgurgl

Start:... at the Alpenhotel Laurin, we head out of the valley. Take the main road 186 via Sölden, Umhausen to Oetz. At the first roundabout we turn right and take the mountain road towards Kühtai and once in Kühtai the road (L 13) leads us down through the Sellraintal valley to Kematen. Here we turn off onto the Zirlerbergstraße (E 533) up to Seefeld. A short break in one of the countless cafés in the pedestrian zone of Seefeld is definitely worthwhile here. We then continue on the road (E 533) to the border crossing at Scharnitz. Once in Bavaria, we continue to Mittenwald and now follow the road to Schmalsee and from Klais (through the village) we take the E 533 back to Garmisch Partenkirchen. Here we head west on the 23 (road number) to Griesen. Continuing in a south-westerly direction, we reach the Austrian border again (from here on the B 187) and continue to Ehrwald. Continuing on the B 187, we reach Lermoos and continue on the Fernpass main road to the Berwang turn-off (just before Bichlbach). Here we turn off to the south and drive up the mountain road to Berwang. (L21) We are now in the Namlos valley.

A very scenic high valley with beautiful meadows and forest. Fortunately, the very heavy traffic over the Fernpass rushes past this region. It is almost shocking how quiet it is here. The occasional car and a few motorcyclists. This is driving fun at its very best. As inconspicuous as the road to Bichlbach begins, it is incredibly easy to drive on - repeat the journey several times!!!

Once we reach Stanzach, we head south on the B 198 to Elmen. Immediately after Elmen we turn left onto the Hahntennjochstraße (L266). There's nothing to say about this, there are countless bends and hairpin bends ahead of us, with a sensible driving style and a marvellous speed, driving fun is guaranteed here. Following the mountain road, we reach the district capital of Imst. Here we join the B 171 and follow the road signs in the direction of Ötztal. After approx. 10 - 15 minutes we reach the Ötztal again. Once here, we follow the signs for Meran/Timmelsjoch again. We then take the B186 valley road back to Hochgurgl to the Alpenhotel Laurin, our motorbike base.
