Wachau tour
Wachau " the touristic"
Today it's the turn of the classic Wachau, we travel leisurely through the winding Weitental valley past the Europaschloss Leiben through the Geier curves to the Danube.
Arriving at the Danube, we catch our first glimpse of the imposing MELK monastery high above the Danube valley, we cross the Danube and drive to the well-signposted monastery car park and visit the Benetikdiner monastery (the best photo spot is below the monastery at the Donauarena).
After this cultural highlight, we drive into the heart of the Wachau on the right bank of the Danube through the small wine villages of Oberarnsdorf, Mitterarnsdorf, Bacharnsdorf and Rossatz. In my opinion, you will find the best wine taverns and the most beautiful views of the vineyard terraces opposite along this route, but it is still too early to stop for a bite to eat.Through the orchards around Mautern, we approach the second abbey on our tour, GÖTTWEIG Abbey, and reach the abbey car park via a cul-de-sac. After a photo and a visit, we return to the Danube and cross the bridge to Krems for a stroll through the old town. After wandering through the pedestrian zone and an espresso in one of the numerous street cafés, we get back on the motorbike and ride to the most famous photo motif in the Wachau, the blue tower of DÜRRNSTEIN, where a tour of the town is also a must.
After the compulsory tourist programme we now want to take care of our bikes, the short straight to WEISSENKIRCHEN is just behind us, left up to SEIBERER from now on there are bends in all imaginable radii and the best surface, at the village Himberg caution is advised because the left turn towards Mühlbach is easy to overlook, but we enjoy the small road with little traffic down to Mühldorf and then through the Spitzergraben on to Spitz, we park our bikes on the main square and explore the surrounding cellar alleys.
From the main square, it's a short ride back into the Spitzergraben to GUT am STEG (TIP: the wine tavern on the right at the end of the town), where we turn left up to the JAUERLING, which I personally like a lot better than the Seiberer, but that's a matter of taste, as we all know, and the next 25 kilometres are some of the best in our area. Back at the Danube we turn right to Kl. PÖCHLARN and take the few bends up to MARIA TAFERL. We are rewarded with a marvellous view over the Danube valley and a newly renovated basilica. Down to Marbach and after 100 metres straight back up to Münichreith, so we also got our money's worth in terms of bikes and the cultural aspect was great anyway.
