Erich, the family elder and a motorcyclist since 1974, knows all the backroads and has practically explored all of South Tyrol and the surrounding regions with his passenger, Anna. Erich, the man for all occasions, was already hooked on motorcycles at age 12, thanks to his brother Reinhard. They unearthed a Victoria 50cc somewhere and tore through the fields. I watched Reinhard with admiration as he revived a 125cc 4-stroke Gilera, and I was amazed that no bolts were left over. Eventually, I rode it for half a year using his license.

Old enough and now with my own license, I absolutely had to have a Benelli Enduro 125. But it had many issues, so I soon replaced it with a new 125cc 4-stroke Gilera. A drunk driver caused serious injury, but barely out of the hospital, I was back on the road. After all, you can ride with one leg if the other one is taking too long to heal. A Ducati 350, Moto Morini 350, Moto Guzzi 1000GT, BMW R900 - these were the motorcycles on which I made my wife Anna the perfect passenger. We also took longer trips on these bikes. Then, after that painful experience, we took a break for children, until Anna said we could take the bike to the sea again.

We borrowed a BMW GS and headed off to the Italian Riviera, all the way to Nice. A week later, I came across a Yamaha 750 Super Tenere and claimed it as mine. It took me on many kilometers across Europe and even to Tunisia, but my heart belonged to BMW. Since 2011, we have had the latest models from BMW Motorrad available for testing and rental at the hotel. I ride them all so that, as Italy’s first BMW tour guide, I can give guests the best advice. My favorites are the F800GS and the C-Evolution, BMW’s electric revolution.

Our first machine was a Honda CRE 50cc, a reliable ride on which we all learned to ride and which took us to every village festival in the area. Next came a souped-up Aprilia RS 125, which we used for our first real tours in the region. Then came a 450 Husqvarna Supermoto, a true fun bike made for the adventurous playground of the Alps right on our doorstep. Lastly, we got a Ducati 748, which expanded our range significantly.

Kaj, an apple farmer at heart, rides his motorcycle whenever time allows. Gallus is the speedster of the family and has certainly logged the most miles. He loves stretching his rides to 500 kilometers or more with spontaneous detours. Stefan, the youngest, is your contact at Landhotel Anna. He accompanies the guided motorcycle tours and enjoys cruising through the mountains at a leisurely pace to take in viewpoints and good restaurants.
