MoHo Schönauer Hof- Tour 7 Cultural tour
We start in Holzgau heading east and ride through the Lechtal valley to Weißenbach where we then turn northwards over the Gaichtpass (1,082m, max. 7%) into the Tannheimertal valley.
After reaching Pfronten, one of many tarmac roads leads us through the southern German lake landscape to Füssen and on to Schwangau.
Here we come to the first cultural highlight: Neuschwanstein Castle. King Ludwig II, the "Fairytale King", had this castle built in 1868 on a rock in front of the Tegelberg as a refuge. However, the castle was never completed until his death in 1886. A guided tour lasts around 35 minutes, but in total you can expect to spend around one to one and a half hours.
In the immediate neighbourhood is
Hohenschwangau Castle. After so much culture, we continue northwards on the B17 until we reach the village of Steingaden. We turn off eastwards into a forest, where we soon spot a sign leading us to the next cultural monument: the Wieskirche.
Culture or no culture, we are tempted by the road again. So we get back on our saddles and put the spurs to the steel steeds to ride first eastwards and then southwards via Oberammergau to Ettal. Culture has us back with the Ettal monastery. Not far away to the west is Linderhof Castle. This was also designed by King Ludwig II. That's it! Enough with the culture! Don't worry, from now on
only driving is on the agenda.
