Monte Baldo - Lake Garda
Route:
Kurtinig - Trento - Vezzano - Lake Toblino - Ponte Arche - Fiavé - Riva del Garda - Torbole - Mori - Ferrara di Monte Baldo - Spiazzi - Caprino Veronese - Prada - Malcesine - Torbole - Arco - Dro - Lake Toblino - Vezzano - Trento - Kurtinig
Take the state road as far as Trento. Here we follow the signs to Riva del Garda. We pass Lake Toblino on the way. The castle of the same name, which stands on a small promontory in the lake, makes a great photo opportunity.
Riva del Garda, the "capital" of northern Lake Garda, is soon reached via Ponte Arche and Fiavè. Along the northern shore of Lake Garda we reach Torbole. We leave Lake Garda and follow the signs to Mori, where the ascent to Monte Baldo begins. At Nago we catch another great view of Lake Garda.
The road, which is still wide at the start, becomes narrower and narrower as we continue and shortly after Mori it becomes really winding. We drive through unsecured and unlit tunnels up to an altitude of 1617 metres. One of the most beautiful viewpoints awaits us at Bocca di Navene: the 2000 metre peaks of the Monte Baldo group on the right and steeply sloping gorges on the left. Further south, the landscape is gentler again. A small road leads us up the Télegraf Pass near Prada and then down to Lake Garda with a gradient of up to 30%, extremely steep and narrow hairpin bends.
We reach Malcesine via the Gardesana Orientale. A Scaliger castle towers over the picturesque village. Through the beautiful Sarca Valley we reach Lake Toblino again. We return to Kurtinig via the familiar route past Vezzano.
Winter closure:
Telegrafpass (1143m) mostly November - April
Monte Baldo (1617m) mostly November - April
